While Elio was still in early development, I boarded this scene from a wonderful Adrian Molina script. The goal was to explore Adrian’s intentions for the relationship dynamic between Olga and Elio. Olga was a dedicated Scientist and Single Mom, and Elio was a loving but troublesome Son.

This was drawn about a year before story kicked off officially but it helped me gain a window into Elio and Olga. I looked for fun staging ideas- putting barriers between the characters, screens, walls, and setting up Elio’s journey with the ‘UFO’ on with fridge magnets.

It was a fun challenge to suggest the conflict between characters while retaining the warmth and fun that Adrian excels at.
